If you want a culture of innovation you need a culture of compassion. You can’t magic up innovation, no matter how many prototypes you make.
This little newsletter is a focused catch-up on all that is happening at Freerthinking, and there’s a lot happening. (Two Compassion Labs coming up.)
I’ve been traveling all over beautiful South Australia delivering workshops on how we build a culture of innovation. This has had me flying and driving 1000s’s of kilometres past shiny pink salt lakes on the way to Port Pirie, dewy early morning pine forests along the Riddoch Highway to Mt Gambier and those ochre red sands of Port Augusta. My road trip has given clarity to what I had long believed to be true. If you want a culture of innovation you need a culture of compassion. You can’t magic up innovation, no matter how many prototypes you make.
This year I introduced a new initiative called Compassion Lab. I called it a Lab because I wanted to create a space that welcomed experiment and risk. We’re all learning how to be more compassionate leaders, this isn’t about someone else, it’s about all of us.
So far I’ve held a retreat and a number of Compassionate Leadership Workshops. Participants always have such positive things to say about the experience.
Don’t worry you haven’t missed out! There are two Leading with Compassion workshops coming up.
Melbourne: Leading With Compassion in Mental Health, 24th and 25th August
Adelaide: Leading With Compassion in Health and Aged Care, 7th and 8th September
I hope to see you at one of the upcoming Compassion Labs. If you know someone whose work intersects with the mental health system please invite them to come along to the Melbourne workshop, and if they work in health or aged care please invite them to the Adelaide workshop – these are important conversations that I think we are ready to have.
warmest regards
Mary
