When it comes to compassion: small is all. (Anne Birgitta Pessi)
We spend in excess of 120,000 hours at work. Many of us will spend a lot more. It would be so foolish of us to think that suffering and pain somehow only happen outside of office hours. Of course we are going to encounter suffering in the workplace, and sometimes we are going to contribute to it. We are almost certainly going to witness it; rub up next to it and bump into it when we least expect.
So let’s prepare ourselves to be compassionate leaders who are able to be in the present moment, listen with empathy and create stories of compassion that enable it to grow where we work. This is possible. Compassion is like any muscle – it needs to be exercised. We can exercise compassion in lots of small ways or what we’re now calling “compassionate micro-moves”.
Only 30 days to go until the Compassionate Leadership Retreat.
You can learn how to enact micro-moves and create design principles that build compassion. We’ve even built a two-day retreat just to make that happen. This retreat is for people who know that the job of making work more compassionate isn’t a job for someone else. You know the kind of people who want to learn how to create more goodness in the world and see lots of places where they could start to do just that in the workplace. We think of them as Compassion Architects.
We’ve chosen a great location, a fabulous team and now we’re inviting you. “Oooh I’d love to come but I’m just a bit nervous about what to expect.” We hear you. We’re so excited that you are joining us and we want to make your retreat experience as wonderful as possible. You can expect that Fiona Kerr will have your mind buzzing and all your neurons firing. You will definitely have quite a few “ah ha” moments when everything falls into place. You will most likely turn to your neighbour and say “wow” at least once.
Now, if you’ve ever spent time with Mary Freer you’re probably already feeling energised. Mary is packing lost of generosity, laughter and energy into the two days. In fact we’ll be surprised if you don’t go home ready to transform your pocket of the world. We know for sure that you will hatch a few little plans for a compassionate world, and that’s just over lunch.
Grab a friend and come along. Make a move: a compassion move. All the details are found HERE.
