You are the sky. Everything else – it’s just the weather. Pema Chödrön
In the thick of uncertainty and change it seems like we become the storm. The edges between my intention and the crazy thumping outcome get blurry. Things can start to feel awfully big and we can start to feel awfully small. It’s in moments like that we need to pause.
I have lately started using a new method to try and help me find my footing more quickly when things seem bigger than I can handle and when things seem slippery. You know those moments when we walk into a space to deliver news that has taken a lot of careful thought or when you turn up at work and you feel like more is being asked of you than you have to offer.
So my two words just at the moment are : brave and present. Simple little words, that carry so much love and intention with them. Words that no-one needs to know I am holding close. These are values that are resonating strongly with me at the moment. I can call these to mind throughout the day, when I answer a call, walk into a meeting or when I turn towards myself.
If you could choose two words to carry with you over the next few weeks what would they be? You don’t have to carry these words with you forever or even for a long time. They are not rocks or sticks to beat yourself with. They are words that help you bring your very best, authentic, human, wobbly self to the present moment.
We did this exercise at the Compassion Lab this week in the Adelaide Hills and as I listened to each participant speak their words I felt so reassured that these leaders, physicians, nurses, doctors, consumer advocates will be walking into their next human encounter carrying these beautiful little words with them. I thought for a moment about what it would feel like to know that the person I’m sitting with is carrying an intention to be “compassionate and curious”. I felt safer already.
If you haven’t experienced a Compassion Lab yet we still have some places available to 21st and 22nd June in Melbourne. Find the information here
